We install, service and repair air conditioning across Camden Town NW1. A single room is £2,400 to £3,200 fitted and a whole house is £8,400 to £11,300, with a free survey and a written price that does not change.

A single unit in a bedroom of a terraced house or a mansion flat, condenser in a rear lightwell or on a rear roof, with the pipe run planned around what cannot be touched. One to two days on site and considerably longer beforehand.

What the housing in Camden Town means for the job

NW1 is the most tightly constrained district on this list and it needs saying plainly. Much of Camden Town, Primrose Hill and Regent's Park is Georgian or early Victorian, a great deal of it is in a conservation area, and some of it is listed. That does not mean air conditioning is impossible; it means the position of the outdoor unit is decided by what is allowed rather than by what is convenient, and the answer is usually a rear lightwell, a rear roof slope out of sight, or a rear yard. Mansion blocks add a management company with a written policy. The canal-side conversions are modern inside old shells and are usually the easiest of the three.

Worth knowing before you book. If the building is listed, listed building consent is a separate matter from planning permission and it applies to internal work as well. That is a genuine constraint and we will tell you at the survey rather than after.

Air conditioning in Camden Town: common questions

My building is listed. Is it a no?

Not automatically, but it is a different process. Listed building consent covers internal alterations too, so the route the pipework takes matters as much as where the outdoor unit goes.

We will give you an honest read at the survey. Some listed buildings in NW1 are straightforward at the rear and some genuinely are not.

What about a mansion block?

The management company's alterations policy decides it and it is worth reading before anything else. Some blocks have a designated plant position, which makes the job simple.

Consent in a leasehold flat sets out the order to do it in.

Is central London more expensive?

£150 to £400 more for a central job, and it is congestion charge, parking suspension and access rather than a London surcharge on the work itself.

The Camden page covers the rest of the borough.
