The lines went in first. The refrigerant pipework and cables come down from the ceiling to each unit position, the mounting bracket is fixed to the wall over them, and only then is the indoor unit lifted onto it and connected. Each unit sits high on the wall, just below the ceiling, with the lines taken up into the ceiling inside a white cover at the corner. Doing it during the renovation means none of that has to be cut into a finished room later.
